Textured Coatings.
 Decorative/ flexible coatings on walls and ceilings, generally contained a 3-5% chrysotile (white) asbestos content.
The asbestos fibres are well contained in the matrix but they will be released when the coating is sanded down or scraped off. Decorative textured coatings were known as:
'Artex', 'Wondertex', 'Suretex', 'Newtex', 'Pebblecoat', 'Marblecoat'.
Since the 13th November 2006, under the new Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006, decorative textured coatings may now be worked on by unlicensed personnel. However, stringent Safe Systems of Work MUST still be used in conjunction with a written Method Statement. All waste produced, is still classified as Hazardous waste and must be removed from site in accordance with applicable legislation which will require either the use of a Licensed Waste skip or Waste Carriers License.
